"Attention, passengers. We are nearing the Chartreuse Town bus station. Please remain seated until the bus has come to a complete stop," the bus driver called over the intercom. Candice yawned and rubbed her face sleepily. She glanced out the window at the surrounding scenery, her violet bangs falling over her amethyst eyes.
The bus ride had felt like forever, but it was only just this morning she had left the comfort of her large home to come to this new region, starting fresh by leaving all of her precious Pokemon at her father's mansion. Her backpack, a plain but sturdy black one, rested in her lap, her slender hands drumming softly on the front pocket.
Candice was anxious to get off the bus. She hadn't had anything to eat in all these hours yet, as she was more prone to motion sickness if she ate anything while riding any sort of transportation. She felt the bus lurch forward and soon the passengers were standing up to reach the aisle. Candice stood up and swung on her backpack and exited the bus demurely.
Outside, she caught her reflection in the glass of a nearby window. Frowning, she straightened herself up, smoothing down her hair into what she felt was an impeccably tied ponytail. She pulled down her faded denim jeans to ensure that the bottoms covered the tops of her boots, and tugged out the wrinkles in the blue button up shirt she wore over a white camisole. Once she deemed her appearance acceptable, she set out to find Chartreuse Town's lab.
With one hand clutching a map, poor Candice must have circled around Chartreuse Town twice, and almost started on the third time, when she looked up and found the lab in a most obvious place. She sighed softly and tucked the map back in her backpack and headed to the front door, tired from unecessary walking. At the entrance of the lab, she held her fingers in a loose fist and rapped gently at the door. "Professor?" she called softly. She didn't like talking in a loud voice if she didn't really have to.

This was the professor time that he got his rest. His work for the day was finally done and both of his newborn twins were finally asleep. It was a hard job. Not many could handle being a first-time single parent to newborn twin at his young age. But to be a professor as well? It was unheard of. That was why he was so grateful to have aides and a nanny. He was taking a nap when both the knock and the call for his name appeared. It woke him nearly instantly. He had become a very light sleeper since the twins were born. "Another one? he said to himself quite stunned. There seemed to be a boom of new trainers lately. Usually it was very calm and slow.
He walked to the door and opened it quickly. He gave a smile to show that he was in a good mood. He was always in a good mood during his 'quiet time'. It was the only time that he could actually think. Spending time with his kids was great too, but it did seem to get a bit stressing. "Why hello! Are you here for your first pokemon?" The question was one that would be repeated over and over again throughout time but he would never get tired of saying it. Of course after a horrible incident with acidentally giving an elite member a first pokemon, he was sure to say that question from now on. That had been on his first day and the elite had come to greet him. It was still an incident the young Professor Willow would never forget.

Perhaps she had knocked too soon. Frantically, Candice ran several hypothetical conversations through her mind. Even for something so simple as this, she felt that she needed to rehearse what to say. Much to the disappointment of her father, a great rhetorician, Candice was a poor speaker, be it public speeches to masses at a seminar or casual conversation with acquaintances. Maybe it was part of her perfectionism, not wanting to say anything stupid sounding, that in her mind she would try and think of every possible response for anything the professor would say. The door opened and she looked up, her left eye's vision partly obscured by the dark bangs hanging like a veil over it. She brushed it back. Once, and old man had angrily told her that it was extremely disrespectful of her to look at him with hair in her face.
The man seemed friendly, which relieved Candice. She was helpless in situations involving hostile individuals. Candice was someone who had a quick temper, but she would rather keep quiet to avoid any unecessary conflict. She smiled back at the professor, bowing down her head as she did when greeting other respectable elders and family friends.
"H...hello," Candice said, raising her head. "Yes, I'm here for my first Pokemon," she added. "Are you the professor?"

"No I am not the professor," Professor Willow said as he stood up a bit taller. He liked to tease some times because of his age, only in the young twenties. His smile widened perhaps giving away his little joke. He got a bit bored with this job sometimes when it involved staying in the lab all day and took it upon himself to make up the strangest jokes to amuse himself. "Infact, I'm actually just a buglar robbing the place." That was the giveaway for his joke.
"But I guess if you want a pokemon, I could find one laying around." The poor man thought he was so funny. He scratched his head as he let out a small laugh to himself. The professor was most definately a geek. "So which one do you want?" he added in quickly with yet another grin. He was a very 'smiley' person.

A frown tugged at Candice's mouth when she heard the man in front of her respond that he was not the professor and she wondered if she had offended him in some way or said the wrong thing again. Aaa, another case in which she said too much. She should have just kept quiet. But her thoughts halted as he now claimed that he was a burglar, and slow as Candice was, she realized he was making a joke. And now a smile began to form. Her father was not one to make jokes. He was caring enough, and treated her kindly, but Candice felt that he was a very serious man that at times, seemed to take his business as his first and only priority.
"Which Pokemon..." Candice wondered aloud, her voice trailing into nothing. She leant her head back and checked the wall of the laboratory, where a list of the starter Pokemon was posted.
She almost laughed. Baby Pokemon! So cute! Which made it even harder for her to choose now, besides there being so many choices.
"Pi...chu," she said, after some thought. "May I have a Pichu?"

"Pichu, Pichu." the Professor repeated to himself. "Nope, I'm sorry. There's only Weedle laying around. I'll go get you one." This was yet another of the Professor's jokes. He found himself so funny at times. He left the room quite quickly and returned with a pokeball that supposedly contained weedle. But of course it actually contained a Pichu. Professor Willow thought he was 'so sly' at this point. He gave her a smile as he handed the pokeball over. "And here's a starter pack," he added in as he revealed a backpack full of the various items needed for a new trainer. You have obtained: Name: You decide.Gender: You decide.Level: 5 Attacks: Thundershock, Charm, Tail Whip Personality: You decideObtained: Pokemon Lab You have obtained: -5 pokeballs -3 potions -A Pokedex -A Badge Case -A Ribbon Case

Candice, being slightly gullible, really did almost believe the professor that she was only getting a Weedle. But part of her nature was being doubtful of several things, and she decided that this was another of the professor's jokes. His smile as he gave her the Pokeball reassured her. She wondered what her father's smile would be like, if he ever took even just half a minute out of his work schedule as head of his company to make a joke. Even the corniest joke.
Candice took the items he gave her and bowed her head. "Thank you very much, Professor...Willow." It suddenly occured to her that they hadn't made proper introductions when she first came. She had only known his name from a pamphlet or booklet she had read about this region. She wondered if he would remember her, even if he didn't know her name. Though that was highly unlikely. The professor had more important things to store in his mind than the memory of an insignificant little girl.
It was understandable. She was quiet back home, only talking when permitted, and only to whoever her parents permitted. She wasn't the type of person who left much of an impression when meeting in person. To others, she had only been known as the first daughter of Lin Chaoxing, only recognized because of her father's name. Couldn't she be acknowledged just as herself? Maybe with Pokemon, she could. And maybe, even her father would recognize her ability in Pokemon breeding. Perhaps, he would even say, if only just once, that he was proud of her.
Candice stuffed all the items in her backpack save for the Pokeball, which she held in her hand and stared at. Getting her first Pokemon for this new region felt nostalgic and she remembered how nervous she had been. Candice looked up at the Professor. "Thank you again, Professor. I'll be leaving now; I don't to take up all your time," she said with a low bow. She smiled and headed for the door.
